High Ponytail Wig for Sybarite Dolls

I played with the Sybarites today! Dolly days are fun days πŸ™‚

I finished a hardcap high ponytail wig today and tried it out on some of my girls. (It’s in my Etsy shop right now!) I even finally deboxed my Forest from last Christmas! Can you believe it took that long to even take her out of the box? Omgawd I’ve become one of those people. The ones who buy expensive limited run dolls and then leave them in the box! What on earth is my world coming to? Clearly, I need more dedicated display space and more time and probably more funds, but I digress. These girls need real display scenes, not just a stand….. One tiny step at a time, right?

Anyway, wig first πŸ™‚

Limo wears it so very well, but then she wears everything beautifully. She’s dreamy!

Rochas looks great in it too, I think. She a nearly finished repaint of mine. She needs catchlights and gloss to her eyes. I’ll post all about her transformation in an upcoming post, because believe you me, she was in seriously rough shape when she arrived here.

Khyrie is getting in on the wig fun! She another Sybarite rescue lady. She was Apple I think originally but I’m not 100% sure. She still need some eyelashes attached, but she rocks this wig even without them!

Lastly, one of my newer ladies, Forest, a vinyl Syb, wears the wig πŸ™‚ Isn’t she beautiful! What a pretty doll πŸ™‚

Thanks for looking at dolly pictures with me today πŸ™‚

This wig is available right now in my Etsy shop!

Sadie – ooak Pippa doll reroot repaint make over

Happy Saturday doll fans! Today I have for you a repainted, rerooted and redressed vintage Palitoy Pippa doll. Same scale as her American counterpart, Topper Dawn. I don’t do very many Pippa makeovers, not because I don’t like Pippa, but because they are very hard to come by on this side of the Atlantic, especially in Canada. No finding them in boot sales around here!

I have a small collection that I have curated over the years and there have always been a couple of girls who were waiting patiently for new hair and faces. This is one of them πŸ™‚

I gave this girl a platinum blonde reroot because I just love that super pale blonde hair! I use a sew in method that is a variation of the lock loop, so I don’t fill their heads with glue. I don’t use any glue. I also don’t poke the hair into the scalp from the outside as that method tends to tear the vinyl of the head.

After her reroot she was parted and styled and given a trim. (Side note: I was sure I had taken some in process pictures but now they’ve disappeared! If I locate them I’ll update the post.)

Then on to her new features. I gave her warm brown eyes with a little black subtle liner and deep red lips. I use artist quality paints pigments and sealers on my repaints. I want them to stay looking fresh and just painted for years to come. I rerooted her lashes as well.

She needed something fitting to wear and I chose deep red silk to match her lips. Her raw silk outfit is a two piece dress. The strapless bustier top is fully lined and fastens with two brass beads ands hand knotted red thread loops and the matching gathered skirt has a silk waistband and also fastens with a brass bead and hand knotted thread loop. It has metal chain and red glass seed bead hem embellishment all the way around the hem.

I’ve made accessories to finish her look. She carries a hard sided red silk purse. This tiny purse has metal wire handles, is lined inside, opens for Pip’s important bits, and fastens with, you guessed it, a brass bead and hand knotted thread loop. She’s also got a chain necklace sporting a small red Swarovski crystal in the center and she wears a custom pair of shoes. The little gold shoes have chain uppers and stacked bead heels.

This little lady is on Ebay right now but only for another day and a half!

Penelope – ooak Monster High Skelita Repaint and Redress

Good morning doll lovers,

I’ve just finished, in honour of the changing seasons around here, a repainted and redressed, fully body blushed Monster High Skelita doll that I have named Penelope.

She’s not unhappy about her current bodily situation, but it does get a little lonely especially when her friends are not about. So, she wanders the cemetery at night with her lantern, looking for lost friends….

In process…

So, sometimes I take copious quantities of photos as I work, and sometimes, well I just forget. If I’m working and I don’t have a lot of time and I’m on a roll, I just keep going and then lament the fact that I didn’t pause and take some shots. But, well, it happens….

I did take some shots as I made the lantern though πŸ™‚ And I have some NWS (if you can call a skeletal nude not work safe?!) shots of her full blushing/paint job sans vetements.

The Lantern:

It is made of water colour paper that has been cut and painted and varnished. Inside is a little candle with a long wick of black, blue, yellow and orange made of stiffened cotton, painted and varnished, acetate that has been painted with the yellow glow of the candle forms the “glass” and a decorative ring handle on the top so Penelope can carry her lantern with her wherever she goes.

First I decided on a design. I wanted something mildly medieval and a little goth. It couldn’t be too very intricate cutting wise due to the scale, but I wanted some visual interest of course..

After all the cutting came the test fold to make sure it would go together well… I’ve left tabs on here and there for gluing πŸ™‚

Before putting it together permanently, I wanted to get the painting done. Apart from being easier overall, it made painting the inside feasible (I mean what old lantern is white inside?) Also, glue doesn’t take water based paints so well, and I didn’t want random white bits on my old medieval type lantern, so paint first and then glue!

I’ve painted the candle to look as though the light from the flame decreases towards the bottom of the candle pillar.Β I’ve added the cotton which will be stiffened and then painted in what I hope will be realistic flame colours πŸ™‚ I’ve added a piece of wire to my chosen pretty ring carry handle which will keep the handle securely attached to the lantern.

Here are those NWS body shots. πŸ˜‰

You can see that I have painted some mossy bits on her here and there. She’s been wandering the cemetery for a Long time! She also has a few well placed tiny bug friends on her, which she doesn’t mind at all. They give her someone to talk to while waiting for her other ghostly friends to come out.

Penelope’s hair has been modified as well. The random orange and blue locks original to her were carefully removed along her front hairline, and this has been rerooted, lock loop sew in method, with the same hair fiber in the same colour with the exception of course of her white streak which is mohair. The flower is a permanent addition.

The dress I’ve made for her is a lovely medium ecru fabric with lots of petal texture. It has factory applied petals and blooms all over. I have strategically added a few here and there for more balanced look. The attached bodice is a simple chiffon crossover with a sewn on flower decorating the waist. The same kind of flower that adorns Penelope’s hair. There is an attached petaled fabric fall that affords lots of posing options.Β The dress is easily removable and fastens with two snap closures. One at the waist and one at the back neck.

Penelope does not have painted catchlight in her eyes. Her eyes have been finished in a 3D gloss to catch the light naturally wherever she is displayed. (There is someone out there claiming to have devised this type of eye finishing and claiming it as his own. Well maybe he made it up on his own and maybe her didn’t. I don’t know, but I do know that I do it and have done it for years and lots of other great customizers do it too! So there’s that!)

Currently this lady is available on my Facebook page, but I’ll be moving her to ebay probably later today and will update the blog with the listing info when I have it.

Thanks for dropping in πŸ™‚

New Desperately Seeking Susan Skull Case listing on Esty

Good day dolly fans!

I have finished a mini replica dancing skeleton and skull head drum case for 16 dolls. This is a miniature of the drum case carried by Madonna in the film Desperately Seeking Susan. I have made this before (twiceΒ  in the last 10 years!) but each is slightly different due to the hand painting and finishing that goes into it after airbrushing with my custom stencils.

This has been made by the same method I used before, which I lay out in some detail in a previous post. Here’s a link if you’d like to check that out.

Skull Case Blog post the first one anyway, there are several!

It has a pink 100% silk interior, both top and bottom and the top has a useable elastic edged pocket. Top and bottom are padded. For added fun, a few paper accessories (just like in the film) are included, just to get you started! πŸ™‚

Here is a link to the Etsy listing
