Yellow Silk and Floral Chiffon for Sybarite

I have almost completed the overdress of this outfit. I’ve added some delicate braid trim to the waistline between skirt and bodice. It accents nicely and gives a more finished look. The skirt is of course supposed to be rough around the edges. All the more reason to have everything else clean finished!

I added a little embellishment at the low apex of the bodice :o)

I ordered up some tiny little eyelets and now I had a great place to use them! I set about installing them on the back of this corset shaped bodice…

I’m putting these eyelets on by hand with a variety of incorrect tools, lol! I haven’t been able to find an eyelet setter small enough yet for these, but I’ll keep looking!

They’re so dang tiny that the cording I was going to use is too thick! I knew these were small, but sheesh :o/ so I had to come up with something else. I tried thick gold metallic thread/narrow cord. I didn’t like how long the cord needed to be in order to open the overdress up enough to slip over Syb’s hips, and it was too insubstantial looking that I decided to try something else.

After trying a variety of cords, cord lengths etc. etc. and wound up with this as the winning option!

I like this. The ribbon is substantial enough looking and the colour is a nice complement to the floral and looks great with the yellow silk too!

So here’s my Trapeze modeling the outfit so far for me :o)

I have a couple of ideas for her footwear and what will go on her head too. I’m moving slowly, but I am almost finished.

Thanks as always for reading and have a great evening!

New Outfit for the Sybarite beauties progresses :o)

When I last posted I was trying to decide on the skirt. What colour, texture, length? I thought about this option….

awsumgal ooak Sybarite Outfit 1

I like it, but not enough. There is something too timid about it to me, and the Sybarites are anything but timid!

A little more mohair on the other side and I’m still not feeling it completely. I like it enough that I will revisit this idea at another time, but not with this outfit…..

I wanted more colour in the skirt, but I still wanted texture to contrast with the clean lines of the catsuit and bustier. I chose a beautifully coloured floral chiffon, but I didn’t use it straight (lol!) When have I ever taken the easy way out? I used very narrow pieces of chiffon treated to retard fraying. Here’s a shot of the strips drying.

Here are a whole bunch of them with the bustier…

The earlier shots of the mohair skirt idea made me decide that the point at the centre front was way too long. A bit too much of a sporan look to it, lol! So I shortened it, and now I am more pleased with the shape :o)

All of these little strips are to be hand sewn to the bustier edge. I tried a couple of different braiding techniques and then decided that I preferred the strips straight :o)

So anyway, here’s how the skirt has shaped up :o)

There is more still that I want to do with this, but I’m quite happy with how it’s coming along :o)

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Work Goes On In My Studio ;o)

I’m working on a new outfit for the Sybarites. I’m having a good time with this one :o)

Based on a catsuit variation, it is stretch silk charmeuse! (My new favorite thing! I mean it’s silk (94%) and spandex (6%) for stretch. What more could one ask for, lol. The stretch charmeuse that I have is a lovely ecru, which is a perfect silken canvas on which to base the outfit. In fact the possibilities to go atop this silk sleeveless catsuit are myriad! I could do almost anything. Makes it a little tough to choose. Sometimes it’s better if you can rule a bunch of stuff out, lol!

Here’s the top of the silk  catsuit….

The top and bottom are united :o) Trapeze lounges around amidst the silks in the studio.

I want a waist cincher on top of this. I toyed with the idea of a beaded one and even went so far as to bead most of one. I will definitely revisit that idea, but decided to nix it for this work. Instead I went with a sun yellow silk.

After much sewing and further topstitching for a little more visual interest, this is what it looks like.

So, now I’m at the skirt stage, ’cause I want there to be a skirt to this outfit! This is one of those ‘way too many options’ parts of the work! OK not really! I’m just teasing, it’s great to have all possibilities open to me. I’m usually left with about twelve more ideas for later that didn’t make it into this one…… and that is just not a bad thing :o)

More next time :o)

Thanks for checking in,

~Samia!~ OOAK Tonner Repaint

Hello all! I have finished a repaint and wanted to share before and after pics of her :o)

I have two of these heads and so decided to repaint one of them… Here they are before:

I decided to paint the one on the right of the above pic because I like the one on the left. She looks less sad! I, like many other doll repainters, use nail polish remover to take off the factory paint and prep the face for a new look. I have noticed recently when I bought a new bottle of remover that it just didn’t work so well. I have no idea why not. Maybe they’re watering it down more these days? Anyway I had to go out and buy another bottle to see if another kind worked better and it did, but still not as well as it used to! I’m trying my third bottle now. I’ve got enough nail polish remover to sink a ship over here, lol! After finally getting her paint off, she looked like this….

And so we begin :o)

Ok so she’s pretty much roughed in here, now she just needs lots and lots of work, lol!

After days of painting, here is her finished look! (That was fast, hmm?)

I had an eyelash epiphany on this girl and I now have no fear of eyelashes, lol! Used to be the hardest part of a repaint for me. Not anymore!
