ooak Antoinette Doll ~Serena!~ WIP 2

Hi and welcome to the Serena WIP 2 post :o)

When I left off I had a test dress in red, draped on a mannequin. When I had spot up-gathered the skirt, I realized  was going to need more length! Also the bottom hem of the gown is indistinct, nebulous and sort of bulbous. (I think I mentioned that before.) To achieve this look the gown is rather longer than the lining and the hem won’t be topstitched in any way. Just attached to the lining on the underside, out of sight….

So I added length, designed for the underside and freeing up some more skirt for gathering. I made this one in pink :o)

It’s really rather pretty, I think! I’ve decided that still more length is needed to have the sort of drape I’m hoping for in the silk. The centre front neckline needs to be a little lower cut as well. The thread gather I put in clinched it! So, back to the pattern to make some changes! (Although this pink one will be completed when I’m finished Serena because I think it’s lovely and is worth completing!)

I want more length for the vertical spot gathers in skirt, so that is where I’ll be adding more fabric. I was always taught to add the fabric where you need it! I have found this simple but wise advice indispensable over the years.

Here’s what I mean…..

I want length in the middle of the skirt, so that is where I am adding it. I’m not tacking it onto the bottom, ’cause I don’t want it there!

I want to add the same amount of course to all of the pattern pieces, so I’ll measure it….

I’ve now added that amount of length to all of the gown pattern pieces. I was ready to cut the silk that I bought for the gown….. It worked very nicely! Like a dream. A lovely, hazy, slow motion, silky dream… or maybe that’s just my cold medicine, lol! Here’s a quick look. It’s a dizzying beautiful colour!

I swear I think I held my breath the whole time! Not out of fear mind you, more out of reverence to the silk :o) Maybe that’s why I don’t tire of this work. I’m a slave to the visual and tactile beauty of fibers, among other things :o)

Tomorrow I will unpack the destination doll and show you this yumminess on the right doll :o)

Until then, have a great day, be good to each other and thanks as always, for reading :o)

Moxi Teens Have Arrived at My House!

I’ve been sucked in to the Moxi Teen universe! It’s a good place, lol! I bought two of these girls. I purchased Melrose and Tristan.  They’re cute, have great outfits and very pose-able.

Here’s Melrose…

Isn’t that a great jacket? I love her jeans and her white T shirt. These dolls are wigged so you can change their looks :o)

That’s how she looks with no hair!

OK, hair’s back!

awsumgal melrose Moxi Teen doll 2

Great looking boots too. I mean they’re plastic of course but still deadly cute!

awsumgal melrose Moxi Teen doll 3

She’s channeling a little Brigitte Bardot I think!

I think she’s pretty cool!If I have complaint, it’s the annoying packaging. Arrggh! Really hard to remove the doll from all of the tape and thread and plastic tabs, crikey!

As i said, I also bought Tristan. I was only going to buy Melrose,  but Tristan has sort of mauve purple grey eyes and I couldn’t resist them!

Again, pose-able and fun! I like most of her outfit, but I’m not a fan of the clashing pinks. The fucsia and the pale pink don’t work together in my humble opinion. I’ll just mix and match those pinks apart, lol! Having said that, I am overall pleased with them both. I think Melrose is my favorite :o)

I took a shot with my Sushi For One Ellowyne just for comparison. (Ellowyne looks la little like Tristans Mom!)

I hope you’ve enjoyed my pics! I have another new girl that I am dying to share (because I love her so very much) and I worked hard on Serena today too! I’ll be posting a Serena update, hopefully tomorrow. Until then, thanks for reading :o)

And For My Next Trick… ooak Antoinette Doll ~Serena!~ WIP 1

I’ll be jumping forward in time now to begin a one of a kind doll in the likeness of the lovely Serena! Not famous maybe, but a famous and dear friend of my client!

Serena has chosen the look for the doll, gown, shoes jewelry and hair style. I have drawn a sketch of the look she would like in the approximate colours. The palette is champagne. Isn’t that delicious?

Here’s the sketch….

he sketch is yellower than the actual gown will be :o) Here’s a shot with the pretty silk charmeuse in champagne that I will be using….

I have drafted a pattern for this lovely gown and I want to run a test gown before I cut into the expensive silk. I can’t obviously use muslin for a test because muslin has zero drape. I have chosen a red satin to test. Who knows maybe the red one will be lovely too, lol!

Here is the first mock up…

awsumgal ooak Antoinette Serena Doll WIP 1.3

The reason it looks so very long is because the style of the gown has generous under folded hemline. A sort of nebulous floating type hemline. The other reason it’s so long is to accommodate the style gathers in the skirt.

Here’s a rough test of the gathers…

It’s not in the least bit neat or anything but it’s just a test. I can take it out and clean it up and do it right if I decide I want to keep the red one in the future :o)

The chosen gown has a drop, off the shoulder type sleeve. Here’s a look at that…

awsumgal ooak Antoinette Serena Doll WIP 1.4

They will be gathered and there will be bead embellishments too. Also this red satin is a little heavier than the silk I will ultimately use and that makes the sleevelets look bulkier than they will in the end. I’m pretty happy with the proportions and the fit. I will probably lower the neckline a little. It’s a little too demure ;o)

Until next time, thanks as always for reading!
