ooak Tonner Antoinette ~Serena!~ Finished

I’ve come to the end of this girl! She’s had her hair jewelry put on and the delicate beads have been sewn to her bodice and her sleevelets. Her paint has all been sealed. She’s all dressed and has had her photo shoot. She’s ready!

Without further ado, I give you the finished, lovely Serena!

Her custom champagne silk gown is fully lined and has been created just for her!

Her jewelry, and beaded hair band and updo were all done by hand to client specifications :o)

Antoinettes have a Lot of hair! I think you could accomplish just about any style with the amount of hair that these beautiful dolls come with. This hairstyle chosen by her new owner is a classy, permanent updo. Small locks of hair were looped and sewn in place. Then the hand beaded hair jewelry was sewn into her hair as a perfect finish for this style.

I’m rather proud of the shoes. Any of you who have made doll shoes know how difficult and exacting shoes are to make. I like how these silk shoes look and best of all they’re well balanced and Serena can stand on her own two feet! (I love it when that happens!) Of course, I recommend a stand for display, but you knew that already didn’t you, lol!

The lovely Serena would never show this much leg (well not in this gown anyway!) but I wanted to show one more look at the lingerie underneath….

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena 10

And…. one last look at her shoes :o)

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena 11

There she is, ready for display :o)

Well, there you have it! I hope you’ve enjoyed watching the work progress to it’s final destination :o)

Thanks for reading and Happy Halloween everyone!

ooak Tonner Antoinette ~Serena!~ WIP 5

Why are doll shoes so very tricky to make? I know they’re small, but then so are purses and wigs and doll jewelry and all the rest. And they have no room for error. There is nowhere to hide in a tiny pair of doll shoes! They take quite some time too. Do a little step, glue and wait, do a little more, glue and wait. You get the drill. Then there’s the seemingly endless problem of the high heel, I won’t even get started on that, lol! In the end I have a nice little pair of champagne silk high heels for Antoinette. Here are just a couple of shots of the shoe saga. Not too many though, I don’t want to bore you :o)

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-1

I know they look weird, but really these bits will be shoes! After some pressing and sewing here’s what I had.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-2

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-3

I’ve left out a few of the less riveting bits of shoe construction. (I enjoy it, but it makes for semi tedious reading lol!)

Then I gave Serena a French Manicure…..

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-4

The next step was her hairstyle. Here’s what the client had chosen….

Here’s the lovely Serena with her paint in place including her eyebrows with untouched hair.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-6

She has a lovely, long and luxurious ponytail, so I’ve got loads of hair to work with!

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-7

And so we begin :o) First I pulled most of her hair out of the way so that I can do small bits at a time.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-3

I have sectioned a bit off toward the front so that she can have a sort of front side sweep.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-8

I’m using invisible thread and lots of patience, lol! This is not a fast process!

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-9

This girl has A LOT of hair!. I had to remove some or her bun would have been comically enormous!

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena WIP 5-10

Well there it is! It’s all up there. Looks lovely IMO. The bit of lace is just to give me some idea of how it will look when I add the hair jewelry, the little tiara sort of hairband :o)

Here she is almost finished, in her gown, with sleevelets attached hair and paint all done! I’m really quite pleased :o) She just needs a little bit of embellishment and she’ll be complete! Yeehaw!!

Next time I blog about Serena she will be complete! (As long as the “weather event” they’re calling for doesn’t blow, or wash me away first!!!)

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful evening  :o)

Sybarite ~Venus In Furs~ :o)

Having a little recreational downtime with my one of my very favourite Sybarite dolls.

Venus In Furs is an old Lou Reed reference. A fine musical ride if you ask me :o) Now, all she needs are her “Shiny, shiny ….. shiny boots of leather”

Enjoy :o)

ooak Tonner Antoinette ~Serena!~ WIP 4

Welcome to wip 4! I meant to post last night but frankly I couldn’t drag my eyes off of the incredible rescue efforts outside of Copiapo, Chile. As I write this post 17 of the 33 have been brought to the surface and it’s my deepest hope that all 33 men are brought to safety. That said, let’s talk dolls!

The Serena doll nears completion! I’ll start off this post with her lingerie. I had already made the stockings and panties and profiled that last time.  Then it was time for the garter belt. The garter belt though functional is unnecessary. The stockings do stay up on their own due to the elastic lace at the top, but we wanted a garter belt, ’cause they look cool, lol!

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-1

Above is the tea/coffee dyed elastic thread. I have threaded pearl type beads (the same ones I have used for her jewelry, more on that later) to make up the garter straps and fasteners for the stockings.

I attached these to the lace waistband part of the garter belt. The waistband has also been threaded with elastic to fit better. It utilizes a snap closure at the back.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-2

So, there it is. It all works, the extra elastic length will be trimmed. It’s not enough! The elastic is too thin. Doesn’t look like a real garter belt to me. This elastic treatment worked fine on my Silkstone Barbie, but it’s not right for the larger Tonner ladies….. No problem! I just need something a little more substantial.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-3

Yes! That’s the ticket. This ecru ribbon is just the right width :o)

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-4

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-5

Above it’s attached at the top…..now for the bottom!

Et Voila!

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-6

The garter belt and stockings are not permanently attached to each other. The belt can be detached from the stockings just like a real one :o)

I have sewn the point gathers in the skirt of the silk dress too. I tried to make the gathers as even and flat as possible. I’m pleased with the fall of the gown. Of course this was done by hand…

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-7

Here’s how the dress looks…

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-8

As you can see I’ve done quite a bit on her face paint too. Here’s a little of how that has evolved…

This doll began as a mannequin and so had no paint to remove.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-8

A little paint ….

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-9

And a little more ….

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-10

It’s a slow process finding the face. An extremely light handed approach is the way to go with fine face painting like this. Go really easy on the paint :o) Takes longer but looks way better.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-11

Here’s the real lady. I decided the dolls eyes which are a lovely brown are not warm enough to be Serena. So I needed to make them a warmer brown tone.

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll Serena WIP 4-14

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-12

Now they are a closer match in colour to the real Serena. The doll’s eyebrows aren’t really there yet and she has no lashes to speak of, but she’s coming along nicely.

Here’s the jewelry style requested by the client….

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-15 pearl-jewelry-set

We changed the colour scheme to match the champagne of the dress.

Here’s a shot of the necklace and earrings. She has the bracelet too, but is outside the frame :o)

awsumgal ooak Tonner Antoinette Serena doll WIP 4-16

The gold plated bead is the clasp in the full sized item, but there aren’t any clasps that small, so of course I had to do it differently! It’s doubled elasticized thread (and man o man that was just a bit of a pain. lol!) As a result though it has the same look as the original. I wanted Serena to be able to pose the doll’s jewelry either way with the gold showing, or at the back, and that I think was right the solution.

Sheesh! What a log post today :o) I think next time I blog about this lady she should be finished!

Thanks for hanging in!

Innoquii ~ The Traveller Has Landed

Marked by various dated customs stamps and other travel related tattoos, Innoquii is an unusual girl with an edge. She is a 16″ porcelain doll from Superdoll of London. Innoquii sports a black circle around one eye. Some collectors remove this, but I’ll be leaving mine. I like it. It’s subversive, this giant ink mark, and I like it :o)

awsumgal Innoquii The Traveller Superdoll 1

I will be quite careful with this doll. She is my only porcelain doll at the moment….

awsumgal Innoquii The Traveller Superdoll 2

I expected her to be heavier than she is. I have resin dolls from Superdoll and they are heavier. I suppose some of the weight difference is due to the simplified jointing of the pelvis and legs on Innoquii. Still, she poses beautifully. She comes with a sweet blue and white gingham bra and panty as well as a navy jacket and matching mid length straight skirt, hose, shoes and hat accessory as well as a stand and collector card.

awsumgal Innoquii The Traveller Superdoll 5

I love her compass rosette tattoo :o)

awsumgal Innoquii The Traveller Superdoll 6

She poses quite naturally. I love this about her!

I don’t love her suit though. I love the gold chain detail along the hem on the inside of the jacket. It’s like a little secret just for Innoquii and her dresser, you! But, I’m not a fan of the fabric used. Frankly it’s dull, I’m sorry but in my opinion, there just isn’t enough style. It’s almost dare I say it? Dowdy! There I said it. Innoquii is far too exciting and edgy for navy blue serge. I’ll have to make her something that more suits my sensibilities. Here’s one more shot in her ginghams :o)

awsumgal Innoquii The Traveller Superdoll 7

All in all a beautiful and stylish addition to my collection of mini humans :o)

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Innoquii The Traveller as much as I’ve enjoyed showing her to you!

Thanks for reading :o)
