Dolce & Gabbana for Pippa Finished!

This tiny mini dress is done :o)

My pretty rerooted Gail does the modelling honours here for me :o)

Here it is with green shoes :o)

Here’s a look at the back….

You can see what I mean about the belt crossing over in the back.

Well folks this one is done. I’ve got more commissioned projects lined up and ready to start, so no time to sit back and do nothing! No way Jose!

Thanks as always for reading :o)

Dolce & Gabbana for Pippa WIP 3

When I stopped last time, I had glued the gold leather strips. All that was left to do on this mini was the fasteners at the back and the belt buckle and attaching the belt to the dress. I considered doing a removable belt, but decided against that for two reasons. First, tiny things like that get lost over time, even if you’re really careful! Secondly, This dress is styled with a gold belt, so it should always have the gold belt. Seems like that is what D&G had in mind, so that’s what I’m going with, lol!

Here’s the dress, pre-belt, straps pinned and off doll ;o)

Starting to look like a dress now :o)

While the gold belt pieces were drying, I created a buckle for the belt from brass wire. I went barreling on ahead and didn’t take any shots of that, but you’re not missing much, lol!

I unclamped the belt pieces…

Here’s the belt with the buckle…

My plan here is to sew the opposite end of the belt at the back and have them cross each other at the back seam. That is to say, sew the right hand belt piece to the left side of the dress back, and then the right belt back to the left side of the dress back opening. That way when you do the belt up nice and tight, the belt will pull the two edges together at the back rather than apart, capiche?

Next post will finished pics :o)

Dolce & Gabbana for Pippa wip 2

Happy Saturday!

I have been having fun with the Dolce & Gabbana little psychedelic mini for Pippa!

I drafted the double dart back and the double darted plus side dart front. It was looking good. I began sewing in the darts and only then decided to go looking for more photos of the original.  Low and behold I did find another! Different view and larger that the first. Yay! Except that when I referred to the photos, I realized that the darting is on the outside. On purpose of course 🙂 Very cool and all of that but my darts were on the inside where they are usually found, lol!I had sewn mine in white thread because I knew it would hide well against the white lining. If the darts are to be on the outside, white thread is not the right choice. A little too noticeable.

I chose white lining fabric because this print fabric is quite fine and a little see through as a result. Backing it with white makes the graphics pop a little more. The pic below shows the difference when the fabric has some white behind it….

Back to the cutting table to start from scratch. These bits are so small and the fabric is quite fine, it seemed much easier to start fresh than to try and remove the incorrect darting. Putting the tiny darts in is definitely an exercise in patience! So very small and being on the outside they have to be freakishly neat, lol! Nowhere to hide here!

The new outside darts are sewn with tan thread so that it will recede a little. And on to the straps….. So thin that they can’t be turned. They have been pressed around some white ribbon and then hand sewn.

Here is Pippa wistfully hoping that this dress is for her, lol! I think she’s reaching for it even! I guess I’d better find her something else fabulous to wear ’cause she’s not getting this one!

There’s more finishing to be done of course, but I’ll pause and work on the thin gold belt. As luck would have it I have some incredible gold leather! What could be nicer, ha ha!

I’m going to fold it quite narrowly, apply some leather adhesive and clamp that sucker!

Well clearly if one clamp is good, many clamps are waaaay better right? ;o)

More clamps – stat!

Phew, that’s got it I think. lol!

Ok, that’s all I have to share today. One more work session should have this little mini finished!

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Time for a New Project :o) Dolce & Gabbana for Pippa

It’s a new week and that means it’s time for a new project, lol! This is a commission of an adorable little Dolce & Gabbana psychedelic mini dress! Yum!

This is going to be worn by the smaller fashion ladies, Pippa and the girls, so it’s quite small really 😮

Here is what the dress looks like on a human…

So, a couple of things…. first off, I wasn’t sure I could remake this for the small set because of the fabric. I mean the dress has great lines, but it’s pretty dependent on the fabric to achieve the look. Then, as luck would have it I was in my local fabric shop (where you can often find me, lol!) and I found this….

It’s not exact, but it’s quite close and when backed with white, it will be a little brighter!

Here’s a look at the back of the real dress.

More double darting and I  like the way the straps are oriented in line with the trajectory of the darting. A nice detail! Ah the joy of darts! Of I go to get started 😮

Thanks for reading!
